THREE EASY STEPS TO CONVERT CONTAINERS INTO CLASSROOMS

The St. Nicholas Educational and Rehabilitation Center (SNC) was in need of more small classrooms for one-on-one classes for children with special needs.

The Polish government kindly sent 12 small containers which were previously used for construction offices. Each one had windows on one wall and a solid front door. They also sent a container Hygiene Block with toilets and sinks.

SNC added some furniture to the interior but the space lacked lighting and was not child friendly on the outside.

We wanted to create a better entrance and some light source for the interior.

1. We designed different animal art for each space so that children would have a more positive feeling when they approached the classroom.
2. We added windows in all of the doors which greatly affected the interior lighting and provided a view into the classroom from the outside entrance.

When all of this was completed, we were still not satisfied because the appearance from the front of the complex was that of a row of shipping containers and hardly a place for children.

3. We decided that some color and nature was needed so we designed more art for the exterior of the containers.

The Staff and the children are now enjoying this new addition to this wonderful educational facility and we had fun creating this new space.
