TOO MANY CHILDREN, TOO LITTLE SPACE
In the town of Brykhovychi, near Lviv , is located a wonderful place of learning. These Government Buildings were originally designed as a home for orphans. It was to accommodate a maximum of 150 children.
In later years it was designated as a school for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Children came from the surrounding communities and Lviv city to attend this school. It was named Saint Nicholas Multidisciplinary, Educational and Rehabilitation Center , commonly referred to as SNC.
The war has caused children from many regions of Ukraine to come to Lviv Oblast (county) seeking safety and the families searched for a school to help their “Special Children”. SNC opened their doors and their hearts to these internally displaced children. Now, the school designed to teach 150 children has 296 and 50 more children coming soon.
A Family Foundation in America joined a U.S.A NGO and they provided a small modular building which has 5 small classrooms for individual teaching, a small kitchen and a bathroom. Each room is designed for one student and one teacher.
More than 50% of the children attending SNC are on the Autism Spectrum (ASD). Many of these children are high energy and very vocal.
The design of this donated modular house was created without doors on the classrooms. This was making it extremely difficult for the teachers to conduct their classes. We saw what a large distraction this lack of doors created and requested the contractor to meet with us.
As a result of this meeting, we donated four heavily insulated sealed doors which provided a dramatic change in the volume level and the teachers were extremely happy with the results.
We have further plans for this great school and will tell you more in the future.
